It was a dreary rainy afternoon when we stumbled across Viv's. Most cafes and restaurants in Sandown had already stopped serving lunch so we were heartened to see Viv's colourful exterior and welcoming promises of Jamaican and English food. With slight trepidation as we knew it was past closing time (English Bank Holiday hours) we popped our heads through the door and enquired if they were still serving. My goodness this was the warmest welcome we had received in the town. Nothing could be too much trouble for this wonderful couple. We were treated like lost family members and Viv never lost her smile. The food was delicious ( we took some curried goat Pasties home too; as well as some chocolate cake) and the service was beyond compare. We left with huge smiles on our faces and looking forward to coming back to the Island specifically for the Goatober week. If you want your jerk chicken, brown stew or curried goat a bit more spicy then just ask :) Thank you for turning a rainy day sunny for us.

Visited the Isle for a Soul/Reggae Event and saw this place as we drove to the event. We made sure it was on our list to visit and was also recommended by our Hosts. Authentic family run, friendly young business on the high street. Portions are great and prices even better, please do ask if theres something you fancy as per menu Viv & her partner are great and very accommodating (like me w/ Ackee & Saltfish), my meal consisted of the above w/ Rice & Peas, Coleslaw, Salad, Dumpling (not GF) & Plantain. I chose a lovely freshly made fruit punch as an accompaniment and they even had Gluten Free Cake for afters which was brilliant, my meal came to less than 20 and the flavours were just right not too spicy or under seasoned, ackee was perfect. The rest of my group had Curry Goat which had very few bones if that’s your vibe also, I just prefer ital/fish. Would recommend and will return if I come back to the Island. Will be taking some of their Flaky Patties home for family to try as a gift from my time on the Island.
